Billy and I were married on May 24, 2003. In exactly 4 months we’ll celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary and we have chosen this year to completely overhaul our health, fitness, and diet. Last year was one of the most difficult for us. I was diagnosed with diabetes and glaucoma, our son was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, ADHD, and anxiety, and our 17 year old daughter went through some major mental health struggles.
It was a bleak year and we definitely struggled not only with our health issues but in all areas. The doctors and hospital bills for our children and myself were astronomical and even with insurance, we were left financially in ruins. Struggling to make ends meet meant that our already un-stellar diet took a hit as foods like macaroni and cheese, ramen noodles, and fatty ground beef were what our budget allowed. Even though I knew that this type of diet was exactly what we didn’t need, I was at a loss as to what to do about it.
Late in December of last year Billy and I had an “aha” moment, we needed to completely restructure our lives. This site is our way of both chronicling our journey and holding ourselves accountable. We need the support of our friends and family to be successful and we cannot afford to fail. Our health, our children, and our lives depend on following through and making an entire lifestyle change.
Our goal is for this blog to be an intensely personal experience and as such both my husband and I will share our thoughts, feelings, and daily struggles as openly and honestly as possible. We believe that having both of us sharing our perceptions of this challenge will help us and others who want to change, together.
